Odisha has been the hub of business since ancient
times. The ports of Odisha were major trade centers of the world in the past. Even
in this millennium, industrialists are willing to set up their industries in
Odisha. This may seem detrimental to indigenous property. However, the purpose
of foreign industries is primarily targeted towards utilization of abundant
natural resources to gain profits. To compensate for the space and resources
consumed by them, a lot of rehabilitation packages are offered. These packages
include residential facilities and jobs for unemployed inhabitants. These
prospects are introduced by many of the mega industrial houses as a part of
human resource management. In short, industrial growth in Odisha would
certainly benefit the local population to a large extent.
Despite the advantages facilitated by industries
venturing into Odisha, people are being misguided in order to abstain from establishment
of industries. This fact led to the formation of “Posco Jana Sampark Vikash
Parishad” by Mr. Bapi Sarkhel. This organization’s prime aim was to generate Pro-Posco
awareness among people. The untiring efforts of holding frequent village level meetings
at Nuagaon and Gadakujang Gram Panchayats and the villages of Noliasahi, Patana
and Govindpur have shown fruitful outcomes and people have developed Pro-Posco
feeling among themselves. These activities established Mr. Bapi Sarkhel as a
bridge between the government and the villagers in relevance to the
controversial POSCO project.
The year 2009 saw the foundation of the Paradeep
Erasama Industrial Development Council or PEIDC. It played a significant role
in bridging the gaps between government agencies and local residents. Mr. Bapi
Sarkhel was the name which initiated a pro-industrial outlook in the minds of
the local inhabitants and thus opening the gates to imminent industrial progress
in the form of PEIDC. Another organization named as “POSCO KRIYANUSHTAN
COMMITTEE” was formed to enhance the reach of PEIDC and create favorable vibes among
the local population. The contribution of Mr. Bapi Sarkhel towards the struggle
for achieving industrial growth in the state of Odisha is undeniable.
